After a spooky Halloween makeover, Weiss Distilling Co.’s freshman tasting room in Downtown Clawson has reopened with a cool new winter menu and decor. The distillery has rebranded itself as a grown-up winter wonderland, with a snowy setting and unique cocktails.

When you walk into the Whiskey Factory, the smell of grain and the shine of copper stills captivate. The two-story historical event space, once the site of Goebel Brewery and Stroh’s Ice Cream, creates an ambiance of heritage that celebrates Detroit’s rich history of alcohol production.

Michigan Distillery was founded in 2012 by eight childhood friends and is a small-batch, artisanal whiskey, gin and vodka producer that utilizes local ingredients sourced from the farms near their distillery and tasting room located in Detroit’s famed Eastern Market. During the COVID-19 outbreak, the distillery quickly adapted their production capacity to produce massive quantities of hand sanitizer in response to the public’s need for critical supplies to keep frontline healthcare and government workers safe and healthy.

The resulting products were distributed to hospitals, healthcare institutions and essential services throughout the state.
