With its pristine beaches and stunning tropical landscapes, Costa Rica is one of the top countries for digital nomad visa for costa rica to live in. The country has a strong culture of work-life balance, and many resources for those who want to work from home or abroad. In 2023, the Costa Rican government stepped up to the plate by offering a visa that will allow more remote workers to legally reside in the country.
This new visa, formally known as the ‘Law to Attract Remote Workers and Providers of Services’ was approved by the Legislative Assembly in July 2021 and signed into law by President Rodrigo Chaves this week with modifications that make it easier for people to apply. The new visa offers a number of benefits to digital nomads and those who can prove they can earn a certain income. These include a full income tax exemption, the ability to bring family members, a waiver of import taxes on personal computers and other equipment needed for work, and up to two vehicles.

However, one of the main stipulations of this new visa is that you have to be able to show that you can generate at least $3,000 per month. For freelancers and contractors, this may be difficult, as most of their earnings are based on contract or per-project rates rather than a fixed monthly salary. This is why some digital nomads opt to come to Costa Rica on a tourist visa first, before applying for this new visa.
